Helldivers 2 player photographs two myths—flying bugs and blue lasers—at the same time, like getting a shot of Bigfoot next to a UFO-

If you listened to your Super Earth superiors—which you should—you would know that flying bugs in Helldivers 2 are a myth created by insect-loving fascists, and blue lasers are a figment of your imagination. Unless you’ve been looking at video evidence, which is high treason, so you shouldn’t be doing that.

If for some reason you were (hypothetically) engaging in such thought crimes, you’d know that there’s been video and photo evidence of both cryptids with varying degrees of legitimacy—hinting at both a new Terminid enemy type, and the return of Helldivers 1’s hyper-advanced Illuminate faction.

Personally speaking, I’ve found the flying bug stuff more convincing than the blue laser beams. Laser weapons go blue when they ricochet off armour, and it’s pretty easy to edit a screenshot to shift the hue. The flying bugs, though? There’s been full videos of those things, so they’re much more likely.

If bugs and blasts are in fact an inside job, …

Here’s a little puzzle game about being a consultant for pirates-

Have you ever wanted to run a startup company focused on a product simulating and solving problems for the average pirate? Problems of complex ship maneuvering, avoiding crashes, and taking hold of your objectives with a firm hand? Have you ever wanted to demonstrate this product for investors in order to achieve the returns only high risk, high reward West Indian Coast venture capitalism can provide?

Of course you haven’t, that’s way too specific, but thanks to developer chapliboy you can now live out just that precisely piratical fantasy in Konkan Coast Pirate Solutions, a puzzle game out this past week that takes a really fun programming mechanic and combines it with very endearing presentation.

It’s a classic puzzler setup where the ships will automatically move forward one step at a time, but you can place down turns, twists, and stops to have them behave in particular ways. Puzzling out those behaviors and interactions is the key to beating puzzles: When will ships…

I’ve played cooking sims and puzzle platformers, but a cooking platformer- I’m listening-

More and more games include cooking as a minigame or activity these days, to which I say: Yay! I love cooking in games, despite being a terrible chef in real life.

Now along comes Magical Delicacy, a cooking platformer, to which I say: Wait, what?

My eyes aren’t deceiving me. Magical Delicacy is a “Metroidvania-inspired wholesome cooking game” and that alone is enough to get me interested, because I don’t think I’ve ever played a cooking platformer before. It doesn’t hurt that the pixel art and animation look fantastic, too. Check out the trailer above, shown at the Wholesome Direct today.

You play as Flora, an aspiring witch who moves to a new town called Grat, which is built along a cliffside (hence all the platforming you’ll be doing). As you explore the town you’ll meet the locals and prepare meals for them in your kitchen, learning new recipes and upgrading your cooking station along the way. The city is also host to secrets and mysteries you can unravel the m…

I will never click another sponsored link on Google again-

There’s an increasingly concerning phenomenon happening one the web right now, one that’s seeing scammers buying up top ad spots on Google in order to spread malicious code. Often impersonating well known apps such as WhatsApp, they can blend seamlessly with harmless ads. Unless you know the exact URL of the app you’re trying to download, you could find yourself downloading something harmful.

We’ve been watching phishing tactics evolve over the years, and while buying ads to impersonate free and open-source apps isn’t a new method for would-be scammers, it seems to have increased along with the trend in NFT and cryptocurrency investments going on all over the internet.

When there’s billion-dollar phish to be caught, you can bet they’re baiting that area up good. Just this week, in fact, NFT God’s ‘entire digital livelihood’ was drained after clicking an official-looking OBS link.

Even hardware manufacturers have been subject to this kind of mimicry, …

If you’re looking to get an RTX 4090, we’ve found two deals on entire gaming PCs for not much more cash-

While it’s true that the price of GPUs on the whole is still rather high, it’s the RTX 4090 that has really seen its pricing shoot straight up into the stratosphere in recent months. A quick hunt through the listings reveals that a lot of examples are currently priced well north of the $2,000 mark, with some coming close to $3,000. That’s a huge chunk of change for a single component, but above we’ve found two entire gaming PCs for not that much more money.

First up, let’s take a look at the HP Omen 45L GT22-1190. Not a particularly memorable name we’ll grant you, but this is an honest-to-goodness powerhouse of a system from a reputable manufacturer, and given it’s currently available for just under $3,300 the pricing here is very much on point. It’s not like HP skimped on the rest of the spec sheet to get it down to this sort of money either, as alongside that RTX 4090 comes a 4.7 GHz AMD Ryzen 9 7900X, 64GB of 5200 MHz DDR5 RAM and a 2TB WD Black PCIe 4.0 NVMe SSD.

Diablo 4 is having a free trial on Steam for the first time ever-

Diablo 4 has offered free trials in the past on Battle.net but for the first time ever you can now take it for a no-cost test drive on Steam. Until 10 am PT/1 pm ET on November 28, the forces of evil are yours to smack around across the ruined realm of Sanctuary—with certain limitations.

I suspect the timing isn’t coincidental—today is also the first day of the big Steam Autumn Sale—and it opens the door to a huge audience of potential players that Blizzard’s own Battle.net, with all due respect, just doesn’t have. It’s also an opportunity to turn around the not-great first impressions of the game on Steam, where the user rating currently stands at mixed. That’s not catastrophic (Starfield, for instance, holds the same rating), but it’s also not great for a game that was supposed to be a strong return to form for one of Blizzard’s most famous game series.

Trial players will have access to all Diablo 4 contents mentioned, but as mentioned, there is one l…

Star Wars Jedi- Survivor Steam reviews hit ‘mostly negative’ as players slam performance issues—’F— us PC gamers right-‘-

Update: As if the performance issues weren’t enough, Digital Foundry’s Alexander Battaglia has highlighted a new issue over on Twitter. Jedi: Survivor’s trigger-happy DRM is apparently so sensitive that it won’t let you install it on two computers in quick succession. Battaglia was told “Too many computers have accessed this account’s version of Star Wars Jedi: Survivor recently” when he tried to install it on a second machine.

Original story: Another month, another big game release, another shitty PC port. Star Wars Jedi: Survivor hit shelves yesterday and for all the tweaks, enhancements, and additional beards it boasts over its predecessor, its performance is leaving a lot to be desired. In Morgan Park’s Star Wars Jedi: Survivor review for PCG, he lamented its “unacceptable performance” but hoped a promised pre-release patch would improve things. If Steam reviews and social media are anything to go by, it hasn’t.

Jedi: Survivor cu…
